Trauma Cover – Just what the doctor ordered.

Ask any doctor and they will tell you that to recovery after a serious illness or accident the body needs to rest. But in most cases that is easier said than done when you have no income and medical bills to pay.

The key to making a successful recovery are generally the same, the correct medical help, rest and a stress free environment. Medical Bills can be expensive and rest means time off work with little or no ongoing income. Add these factors together and you end up with an extremely stressful environment that can restrict a timely recovery.

Many people live with the attitude that “it won’t happen to me” but with one in 3 people being diagnosed with cancer and 1 in 2 men over 40 suffering from heart disease chances are it will.

The level of assistance provided by the government is far from enough to provide for your family into the future especially when you consider the cost of living, education and looking after your family. The maximum benefit payable for any one benefit is $499 per fortnight before any income or asset test are applied which may reduce the amount you receive.

If you are injured at work you may receive some assistance however recent studies have shown that only 57% of people who claimed on workers compensation received financial assistance and only slightly more than half of the successful claims resulted in compensation being paid. It is also important to consider that recent legislation has imposed strict limitations to the amounts that can be paid out and the criteria applying to claims.

Finally Medicare and private health insurance provide some cover for medical costs but not all and are usually limited by the level of cover selected. Generally, Carers costs and rehabilitation costs are not covered under private medical insurance.

Trauma Cover (also called critical illness and medical recovery insurance) provides a lump sum payment to the policy holder on diagnosis of one of the over 40 defined illnesses including heart attack, stroke or paralysis. There is no restriction as to how the money can be used giving you options and avoiding unnecessary stress.
